ARCO Resident Survey

Is your retirement community participating in the ARCO Retirement Communities Resident Survey 2017? Do you want to find out more? Here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about the survey, and who to contact to find out more.

Why is ARCO conducting this survey?

This study aims to build a better understanding of the reasons why people move to retirement communities, what residents think about life in their community and which services they value most.

The larger the number of completed surveys received, the more robust the information will be, which will enable operators to better tailor their offer to residents’ wishes and needs.

Who is running this survey?

This survey is being conducted by ProMatura Group LLC, on behalf of ARCO (Associated Retirement Community Operators). ARCO is the not-for-profit representative body for providers of extra care housing and retirement villages in the UK, and has been at the forefront of setting standards for retirement communities for five years.

What will happen to the information I provide?

Your responses will remain anonymous, and not ARCO, ProMatura, nor the operators of your community will be able to identify you. Survey responses will be analysed by ProMatura, an organisation with an extensive track record of conducting surveys with retirement community residents in the United States. Individual operators will receive feedback about each community, but not individual responses. The public report will show general trends – it will not detail results from each community.

Please note that participating in the survey is completely voluntary.

Who can complete the survey?

The survey is being distributed to more than 10,000 residents at 100 ARCO-registered retirement communities. Some ARCO members have volunteered some or all of their communities to participate. If you have seen a poster advertising the survey or a survey itself, you are in one of the participating communities. If you have not, you may not be eligible to participate at this time – please ask at reception in your community to find out if you can participate.

Anyone in a participating community can complete the survey. If you live with someone else in your flat or house, you each can complete your own survey.

Why might I wish to participate?

This is an opportunity to tell us about your experiences, and help your retirement community to improve by allowing it to see how it compares to other retirement communities in the sector. This is the largest ever survey conducted with people living in retirement communities in the UK, and you can help contribute to this ground-breaking piece of research.

Participants can also enter a prize-draw for the chance to win one of 20 Marks & Spencer hampers (worth £50 each). Additionally, the community with the highest percentage of residents completing the survey will also win a special additional prize!

How do I participate?

There are two ways to complete the survey.

  • Paper: If you are in a participating community, you will be able to get a survey from reception (or another designated place – please ask at reception for more information). Once you receive the survey, please fill it in and put it in the envelope supplied. Please seal the envelope and return it back to the designated return location in your retirement community.
  • Online: If you’d prefer to complete your survey online, please do so by visiting www.promatura.net/survey/ARCO.htm and completing an online survey there.

The deadline for completing the survey is Friday 17 March.

What is the deadline to submit the survey?

All paper surveys must be completed and returned to the designated return location in your retirement community (usually reception) no later than Friday 17 March.

How do I take part in the prize-draw?

This depends on if you are completing a paper survey or the online survey.

  • Paper: If you are using a paper survey, you will also receive a prize-draw slip in your envelope. Please return your prize-draw slip separately to the designated return location in your retirement community. Make sure you do NOT put it in the same envelope as the survey. If in doubt, please ask at reception.
  • Online: If you complete the survey online, once you are finished you will be redirected to a new page – separate from your survey responses, where you can submit your information for the prize draw.

When will I find out if I’ve won a prize?

Winners for the prize-draw will be randomly drawn on 11 May 2017on the second day of ARCO’s annual conference, at the law firm Trowers and Hamlins. The winning community will also be announced on that day. If you are a winner, you will be contacted the week of 15 May 2017.

What if I have further questions?

Most questions can best be answered by the staff at reception at your local community. Staff at your retirement community have been given instructions on the survey, and will be able to provide you with information on how things will be done in your community.
