ARCO Wellbeing Weekend 2015

ARCO held an Open Weekend from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September 2015. The 2015 Open Weekend focused on wellbeing, and showed how retirement communities can help promote healthy lifestyles through a community environment, provision of exercise facilities, and care on site.

Many older people are not getting the physical exercise that will help them delay illness and preventable health problems like falls as they age. As older people move into care settings the level of activity drops again. Please see our press release for our recently conducted research about older people and exercise.

Over 50 retirement communities across the UK participated in the ARCO Wellbeing Weekend and demonstrated how residents stay fit, healthy and active in their communities. This included activities such as:

  • Cycling challenges
  • Swim challenges
  • Healthy food demonstrations
  • Walking challenges
  • A variety of classes, such as tai chi, zumba, and sitting fitness
